So you realized that you don’t really love this girl you have been going steady with for quite sometime now. That is a painful truth, but it is the truth, nonetheless. You do not really want to hurt her but know that even if you decide to stay, your relationship will only suffer and you will also be depriving yourself of the happiness you deserve. So to avoid this, you need to break up with your girlfriend. Here are some ways you can do so:
1. Take Some Time off Each Other
Tell your girlfriend that you want to spend sometime alone. A couple of weeks should be enough to help you think things through. Be upfront to her about it, and be clear about what you want to happen. Avoid communicating with her via phone, chat, email, or even SMS. Be firm about being alone because there is a good chance she will beg you not to go through with it.
2. Make Tough Decisions
Once you are given time away from her, your mind should be clear about what you want to happen. Weigh things carefully, and find out if you are really sure about your decision. If you have been with this person for a long time now, then you are going to have to make tough choices. But before that, think about it. Do you see a future with this girl? Is this what you really want, or is this what your family and friends want?
3. Plan the Breakup
OK so you have already decided to push through with the breakup. Before you go ahead and tell her about it, make a plan first because you will never be too sure of how she will react to what you are about to tell her. Do you have anything valuable that is currently in her possession? Do you have joint accounts, properties, or business ventures? See to it that your breakup will not jeopardize these things, otherwise find a way to protect your assets and properties so you don’t end up losing these.
4. Talk to Her
Once everything is ready, prepare yourself to talk to your girlfriend. Be prepared for a rather emotional moment, but control yourself against being immature, angry, or spiteful. If you think that things might get difficult and crazy, you could ask help from mutual friends who can provide support to you and your girlfriend during this time.
She may try to manipulate you or do something crazy to make you change your mind, so be sure you stay firm and hold your ground.
5. Avoid Her If Necessary
If she refuses to accept your decision, then you are left with no choice but to avoid her completely. Stop any form of communication with her until such time she is able to accept things as they are, and that she is already emotionally stable.
